Prayer Targets: Tide-Turning; Terrorism, Washington, US Military; Obamacare, Defunding, IRS, Refugees

Unless the Lord builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the Lord guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain. Psalm 127:1

Dr. Quinton J. Everest (1907-2005) was a founder of Indiana’s Bethel College, launched in 1947. He pastored the Gospel Center Missionary Church, South Bend, for 22 years and hosted “Your Worship Hour,” syndicated and heard worldwide on 125 radio stations. He also broadcast “Sunrise Meditations” for 22 years. Dozens of his books and sermons on holiness and prophecy can be found on the Internet. This is from his Praying Men and Women Can Turn the Tide.

The God who made America a land of freedom, strength and plenty – the only and true God – is today opposed, neglected, ignored and abused by many. If it were possible, they would annihilate Him altogether. By treating Him thus, our nation’s confusion is increased; hate is intensified; evil is increasingly glorified; problems are multiplied; purity and Biblical idealism are derided, and honesty and justice are discarded.

Four hundred years ago, our forefathers came to these shores to worship God in spirit and in truth. Their rugged faith amid hardship, danger, and toil brought them calmness of soul, peace of mind, and hope for the future. Their faith, joined with those who later trusted God, have made America a great land.

What made America strong, free and one of the most blessed places on the face of the earth to live, was and is, praying men and women. Unless another generation of praying people comes on the scene right soon, we are headed for the ash heap. Many nations have fallen because of immorality and pleasure-seeking. Many have been defeated and destroyed because God was forgotten, ignored, and disobeyed.

America is no exception! We need and must have God, if our problems are to be solved. We need a humbling and crying out to Him. From the least to the greatest, we need to repent! We need Samuels, Daniels, and Pauls who will fast and pray until God breaks through, until sin is uncovered and uprooted, until lives are converted, purified, and empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Samuel came on the scene in this desperate, checkered hour of Israel’s history. Worship had degenerated. The nation was given over to sin of the worst kind, poisoned with idolatry. In the high places, immorality had become a rotting stench…  There were forms of religion, but their worship had become formal and dead. The whole nation was lying and wallowing in the slime and filth from a long period of backsliding.

Israel’s Philistine enemies had prevailed in battle. The ark of God’s presence was captured and the whole land was under a galling yoke. The glory was gone… true faith in Jehovah was dying.

Was there any solution? Amid Israel’s pitiful plight there was! (1 Sam. 7:5-6). Samuel was a man of devotion and mighty prayer. He faithfully taught the people that they must return to God and called a   nation-wide [solemn assembly]. He told the people to gather at Mizpeh and he would pray for them.

It was a time of fasting and prayer – a nation on its knees – due to one man’s earnest prayers (see Jas 5:16). Israel looked to this praying man. The Philistines feared their subjects were planning an offensive and attacked Israel with great power. Terror stricken, despairing, and near ready to surrender, the people begged Samuel, “Cease not to cry unto the Lord our God for us that He will save us out of the hand of the Philistines” (1 Sam. 7:8). Samuel prayed unto the Lord and he was heard (v. 9); his prayers were mightier than the Philistine armies. Israel prevailed; the people returned God and God was glorified!

But it was not the prayer Samuel offered, alone, but all of his prayer and godly living beforehand that brought results. Such prayers are not forgotten by God, but stored up in golden vials full of odors (Rev 5:8).

Are You Ready to Pray for America? We can howl about the corrupt political situation in our nation. We can rant on about the immorality. But the way into the inner sanctuary, for answers to our prayers, is holy living and constant communion. If you care for America and her future, you had better get on praying ground and do some real praying. God is searching for men and women who will give themselves to fasting and prayer, real brokenness and humiliation of heart before God! If we who profess to know God would do so with heart searchings, and agonizing supplications, we would soon see results. God is waiting… Then He will move upon the scene (Everest, Herald of His Coming, edited for length).

San Bernardino, Washington and the U.S. Military – On December 3rd, 14 innocent Americans were murdered and 21 wounded at a San Bernardino, California Christmas party. By evening, the FBI characteristically refused to publicly rule the shooting terrorism, though available evidence glaringly declared that to be the case. President Obama called for increased gun control. That evening, the president’s new Attorney General, Loretta Lynch, spoke to supporters at a dinner sponsored by the “Muslim Advocates,” a Washington pro-Muslim lobbyist group. Addressing the mostly Muslim crowd, Lynch recounted her long time relationship with the organization, accentuated her department’s “partnership,” and promised to use the power of her office to quell anti-Muslim backlash and to “take action” against anti-Islam hate speech. She urged hearers, should their children be bullied in school, to contact the Feds directly – either the DOJ or the Department of Education. President Obama waited until December 6th to admit that the murders were acts of terrorism, reiterating that the U.S. “is at war with terrorism” but “not Islam.” He said he would implement new gun control measures as part of his strategy to defeat terrorism. As in every Islamist attack since he was elected, he pleaded with Americans not to turn against Islam – again urging Americans to overlook Islamic ideology and its incompatibility with U.S. Constitutional law.

Meanwhile Thursday, as Americans were purchasing handguns and applying for concealed-carry permits in record numbers, Defense Secretary Ash Carter ordered the U.S. military to open all combat jobs to women, rejecting the Marine Corps request women be excluded from certain front-line combat jobs. Experts say this change will be deleterious to good order and discipline, reduce military effectiveness, and cost American lives – weakening our national security even as we face greater threats. The Pentagon says the move puts into question the Supreme Court’s ruling allowing women to be excluded from the draft (see Lynch Video; Obama Speech; Former FBI Feedback, Carter Order; Female Draft?; Decision Will Cost Readiness, Lives; Hear Tony, Rick Santorum, Read Perkins on Terrorism; Gender Warfare in the Trenches).

  • Please pray that believers across America, especially those who comprise growing prayer movement will “stand in the gap” for America’s national security, knowing that “Unless the Lord watches the city, the watchmen stays awake in vain.” May local churches and the growing parachurch movement unite in spirit to build a National Security Prayer Wall – spiritual ramparts that will keep God’s protection over our nation, even as our current national policies combine to weaken our military defenses. In 2016, May a new president, Congress, governors and state legislators be elected who, like the sons of Issachar, “understand the times and know what [America] ought to do.” Pray that America’s pastors, like Jonas Clark, will equip their people to pray and prepare for the threats that now face our nation (1 Chr 12:32; Neh 4:13-21; Ps 127:1; Pr 22:3; 28:4; Eze 22:30).

Finally, the U.S. Senate approved the reconciliation package last Thursday that includes repeal major parts of ObamaCare and largely withdraw taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood (see Not-so-Murray Christmas for Libs).  It now goes to the House for approval, then to the president’s desk (see Wise Men Still Seek Repeal!). The IRS is considering a measure to require non-profit organizations (including churches), to obtain and report the social security number of every person who contributes more that $250 to their cause. See Tony Perkins’s thoughts on what to do with the Syrian Refugees, and pray as the Lord leads you (see Do You Fear What I Fear; What about Sharia?)! As always, thank you for praying!

Prayer Targets: Planned Parenthood Shooting; Defunding; Campus Disorder; Free to Believe; Prayer!

So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one. Therefore I have poured out My indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath; and I have recompensed their deeds on their own heads,” says the Lord God.” Ezekiel 22:30-31 NKJV

Rich Carmichael serves on the editorial team of the Herald of His Coming. Since 1941 the monthly newsprint magazine has published powerful messages online on revival, prayer, repentance, holiness, and similar themes. These excerpts are from his The Only Hope for America:

We know clearly from Scripture that the heart of God is to save and deliver, not to judge and destroy. He is patient toward us and slow to anger, desiring that no one perish, but for all to come to repentance (2 Pet 3:9). However, when a nation, or a church, or an individual continues in sin and refuses to repent, there comes the point at which God is so grieved by man’s rebellion and wickedness that He pours out the deserved judgment.

Sadly and tragically, America is on the brink of such serious judgment. Thirty years ago David Wilkerson, in his book Set the Trumpet to Thy Mouth, described the reason for the terrible judgment looming over this nation: “It is because America has sinned against the greatest light. Other nations are just as sinful, but none are as flooded with gospel light as ours. God is going to judge America for its violence, its crimes, its backslidings, its murdering of millions of babies, its flaunting of homosexuality, its corruption, its drunkenness and drug abuse, its form of godliness without power, its lukewarmness toward Christ, its rampant divorce and adultery, its lewd pornography, its child molestations, its cheatings, its robbings, its dirty movies, and its occult practices.” And how much more grievous is the sin today?

Of course, some measure of judgment is already upon us. The God who makes nations great and who destroys them (Job 12:23) is already allowing America to experience the breakdown that comes with pride and rebellion. The Scripture warns us that God is not mocked – what we sow, we reap (Gal 6:7). America is losing her greatness because of the sin of her people. Have we not reached the point described in the Book of Judges in which this nation is doing “evil in the sight of the Lord” and everyone is doing “what [is] right in his own eyes”? (2:11; 21:25). When the nation reaches such a point, the Book of Judges reveals over and over that judgment is certain to follow.

The Response of God’s People – It is not surprising that unbelievers continue on in defiance of God. What is surprising is that many in the church are apathetic, lukewarm and casual about sin; or worse, are themselves actively rebelling against the Lord and His Word. This is an hour when God’s people should be filled with grief over the state of this nation, and even more so over the state of the church. The terrible condition of this nation is, after all, a reflection of the condition of the church. “…It is time for judgment to begin with the household of God” (1 Pet 4:17). The only hope for the nation is humility, prayer and repentance on the part of God’s people (2 Chr. 7:14)…

The situation is critical, desperate. Even greater judgment is imminent.

Thankfully, God’s heart is that we plead. He is searching for those who will “build up the wall and stand in the gap” before Him so that He will not have to send the impending judgment. His desire is for spiritual awakening and revival.

So the question is not in regard to God’s heart, but in regard to us. Will we respond? Will we cast off our apathy, lukewarmness and sin, and turn our full attention to the Lord? Knowing that what happens to America in the days ahead is dependent upon our response as God’s people should drive each of us to our knees in deep humility, repentance and intercession (Herald… May, 2015).

The year ahead may be our last chance.  Will we choose godly leaders who will lead us away from the road to destruction? More importantly, will God’s people repent, and seek His face? As Carmichael has expressed so plainly, repentance and revival, beginning with the church, is our nation’s only hope!  We who know anything of prayer must consecrate ourselves with prayer and fasting in the months ahead.

Shooting at Planned Parenthood – Robert Lewis Dear, the unstable 57 year-old man who murdered 3 people and wounded 9 in a shooting rampage at a Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood abortion clinic, was not a pro-life activist. LifeNews reported that the “rambling loner, never talked about abortion.” Nevertheless, Planned Parenthood and the pro-abortion media went on a public relations blitz to blame the pro-life movement as purveyors of hate speech.  This move is almost certainly in hopes of stopping the grassroots effort to end taxpayer support for the nation’s largest abortion business, an effort underway numerous states and the U.S. Congress.

Killed were two civilian victims, Jennifer Markovsky (35), and Ke’Arre Stewart (29), a U.S. Army veteran, both whom were accompanying friends to the clinic.  Also killed was a police officer, Garrett Swasey (44), shot while attempting to stop the shooter and protect the lives of Planned Parenthood workers and clients. Swasey was also a local church elder and worship leader, and a stalwart pro-life Christian.

Over the weekend, many in the single-mindedly pro-abortion, liberal press dominated the airwaves and internet with charges of pro-life and Christian “terrorism,” despite the lack of any evidence that the shiftless gunman was either a Christian or pro-life.

Meanwhile, the Republicans in the Senate say “all systems go” to vote this week on a reconciliation bill that would defund Planned Parenthood and repeal parts of ObamaCare  (see WSJ: Shooter in Court. Federalist: Stop Blaming Pro-Lifers; Huffington Post: Christian Terrorism; Slain Officer a Christian; Fox: Slain Civilians; Christians Blamed for not Speaking Out; Fiorina: Typical Leftwing Politics; Tony Perkins: The Darkest of Black Fridays; All Systems Go; Senate to Vote Obamacare Repeal ).

  • May the American people not be fooled by the rhetorical tactics of abortion supporters!  Rather, may Congress be all the more determined and succeed this week in stopping taxpayer funding of the nation’s largest abortion business! May God’s people lead the way!  (Pr 26:25; 1 Cor 6:8, 15:33; Eph 4:15; 1 Jn 4:1; Rev 12:11)

A New Wave of Student Protests – Student protests have returned to the College Campus. David Davenport in Forbes Magazine, writes, that they are not like those of the 60s – protests about wars and American foreign policy, but about “perceived slights and injustices in their college experience.”  They are demands for free college tuition and the cancellation of student debt and extensions of popular protests like the “black lives matter” movement.

At Vanderbilt, students are demanding that Black Conservative and Christian Professor Carol Swain be dismissed for expressing her Christian views on her Facebook page. But while most College administrators and professors are caving in to such protests, leaders like Dr. Swain and Dr. Everett Piper, President of Oklahoma Wesleyan University are not. Dr. Carol Swain is saying to students, “Grow up!”  Dr. Piper wrote in an open letter to all students in response to a protest by one: “This is not Day Care, it is a University.” Swain says, “I’m very concerned about what’s happening across the nation, and I believe university administrators have lost control and that they’re making a serious mistake when they give into students using those…strategies” (see Forbes: New Era; Boston Globe: Protesters More Like Puritans?; National Review: Progressive Professors to Blame; Daily Signal: Dr. Swain to Students – “Grow up”; Dr. Piper’s Widely Applauded Open Letter; New Generation of Campus Disorders).

  • As America gasps for spiritual breath, may God raise up leaders on our local school boards and our college and university campuses who will say “ENOUGH!” to immorality and nihilism that is passing for education in our schools. May God send another sweeping “Jesus Movement” that brings our youth and America back to Him! (Ex 18:21; Ps 110:3; Is 59: all, esp. v. 15-16; Acts 2:17-18; 1 Tim 4:12)

Finally, Please visit the Free to Believe Website and pray for the nationwide church training broadcast by FRC on Saturday, January 16th.  If you have not already done so, please sign our petition calling upon Congress to Defund Planned Parenthood. Prayer Targets: Thanksgiving: 1777 & Today; ‘Free to Believe;’ First Amendment Defense Act (FADA)

As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” … He said,“Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed. [One] when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice… threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him… he was a Samaritan. Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner? … Rise and go; your faith has made you well.” Luke 17:11-17

Thanksgiving is unique in America. And while many countries have observed harvest feasts and holidays, only a few nations, most notably Canada, celebrate Thanksgiving as a day to truly give thanks to the God of the Bible, and most of those derived their celebration from America.

While four states continue to debate the rightful claim to the first American Thanksgiving Day (e.g., the Pilgrims of Massachusetts, the Anglican settlers in Virginia, the Huguenots in Florida, or the Spanish Catholic in El Paso, Texas), Thanksgiving is a uniquely American holiday. The many hundreds of proclamations by the original 13 colonies, the Continental Congresses, Presidents and Congresses under the U.S. Constitution, and governors in all 50 states, all attest to our nation’s acknowledged dependence upon and gratitude to Almighty God. Not only are American rights and liberties endowed to us by our Creator, we are also the beneficiaries of His eternal law and gospel. We have been entrusted with the responsibility to protect and preserve those benefits so plainly described in our nation’s birth certificate, the Declaration of Independence, and are accountable to the Supreme Judge of the World. But the many historical Thanksgiving Proclamations add to those legal documents to make it clear that the American people owe continual thanks to Almighty God for His manifold mercies and blessings.

America’s Thanksgiving is a uniquely religious event. While it may have diminished just as faith in Americans has waned, it is our duty as believers to honor and revive the spiritual sentiment of this consecrated day.  The faithful should make it a time of genuine thanksgiving to God, not just for the bountiful harvest and material blessings, but also for the spiritual benefits that our Forefathers risked their lives to obtain.  Like those who fled to America for religious freedom, we must join in the quest of liberty to serve God without restraint or persecution, and to pass that liberty on to our children.

Similarly, the children of Israel escaped slavery in Egypt and followed God’s cloud and fire to liberty in the Promised Land. Yet when they arrived, they had to fight for every inch of ground and to prevail over the evil practices of those who inhabited the land.  That fight went on for generations. We must also work to preserve the values of Faith, Family and Freedom in America during these challenging days. We must show God proper gratitude for his aid and assistance.  The first Thanksgivings were just that: times to thank God for survival and the opportunity to carve a new nation from the wilderness where Christian faith would prosper and Religious Liberty would be firmly established.

God ordained seven major feasts in Scripture and feasting and fasting both have a place in God’s economy. The carefully written, beautifully worded Thanksgiving proclamations from the beginnings of America were filled with biblical thought. They were the “Prayer Targets” to help inspire and guide worshipers across the land in their prayers.  Interestingly, the Puritans observed Thanksgiving as a Day of Fasting, Humiliation and Prayer.  This continued throughout the War for Independence, with the Continental Congress making 15 proclamations.  About half were calls to prayer and fasting and the other half for prayer and thanksgiving.

Today, we face war with Islamist enemies who have been telling us for decades that they intend to destroy Israel and us. Americans seem to be reawakening and taking notice. It is against this backdrop that we observe Thanksgiving, 2015. Next year we will have national elections, God willing, but for now, we are dealing with a government that is increasingly hostile toward people of faith.  We have faced challenging times before, and God has preserved us.

During the War for Independence, our future as a fledgling nation was in doubt only a year after the ink had dried on the Declaration.  Defeat after defeat left even the signers of that Declaration discouraged.  As the British advanced, the Liberty Bell was taken down from Independence Hall.  Congress fled.  Our capital city of Philadelphia was lost.  Yet God granted us an astounding victory over the British at Saratoga, which brought the French in as an ally and turned the tide of the war.  Below is the text of the Continental Congress’ November 1, 1777 national Thanksgiving Day Proclamation, as printed in the Journals of Congress.

The committee appointed to prepare a recommendation to the several states, to set apart a day of public thanksgiving, brought in a report; which was taken into consideration, and agreed to as follows:

Forasmuch as it is the indispensable duty of all men to adore the superintending providence of Almighty God; to acknowledge with gratitude their obligation to him for benefits received, and to implore such farther blessings as they stand in need of; and it having pleased him in his abundant mercy not only to continue to us the innumerable bounties of his common providence, but also smile upon us in the prosecution of a just and necessary war, for the defense and establishment of our unalienable rights and liberties; particularly in that he hath been pleased in so great a measure to prosper the means used for the support of our troops and to crown our arms with most signal success:

It is therefore recommended to the legislative or executive powers of these United States, to set apart Thursday, the 18th day of December next, for solemn thanksgiving and praise; that with one heart and one voice the good people may express the grateful feelings of their hearts, and consecrate themselves to the service of their divine benefactor; and that together with their sincere acknowledgments and offerings, they may join the penitent confession of their manifold sins, whereby they had forfeited every favor, and their humble and earnest supplication that it may please God, through the merits of Jesus Christ, mercifully to forgive and blot them out of remembrance; that it may please him graciously to afford his blessings on the governments of these states respectively, and prosper the public council of the whole; to inspire our commanders both by land and sea, and all under them, with that wisdom and fortitude which may render them fit instruments, under the providence of Almighty God, to secure for these United States the greatest of all blessings, independence and peace; that it may please him to prosper the trade and manufactures of the people and the labor of the husbandman, that our land may yield its increase; to take schools and seminaries of education, so necessary for cultivating the principles of true liberty, virtue and piety, under his nurturing hand, and to prosper the means of religion for the promotion and enlargement of that kingdom which consisteth in righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost.

And it is further recommended, that servile labor, and such recreation as, though at other times innocent, may be unbecoming the purpose of this appointment, be omitted on so solemn an occasion. (Journals of Congress; October thru December 1777, p 854).

As you observe Thanksgiving this year, allow the Continental Congress’s 1777 “Prayer Targets” to guide you. They are every bit as timely and relevant today as then. And as you pray, keep the blessing of Religious Liberty we have enjoyed on the forefront of your mind, our greatest treasure next to our relationship with the Lord, and our families. Ask God for resolve to return from the holiday committed to doing your part to preserve religious liberty today – most importantly, to pray for and to insist that your Congressmen co-sponsor and vote for the First Amendment Defense Act – the only means of timely ensuring that Bible-believing Americans will not be further harassed, persecuted, fined and otherwise punished for simply practicing their faith in God’s word, that defined marriage as between a man and a woman (see previous Prayer Targets that outline FADA (Nov. 18; Nov. 11).

Also, please mark your calendar for “Free to Believe:  How Your Church Can Impact the Culture,” January 16, 2016, 9 AM to 1 PM ET. This is a live broadcast training event intended for churches, prayer and action groups, and other Christian church and school groups whose members want to know how to stand more effectively for religious liberty amid our changing and challenging culture. Pray for Tony Perkins, who will be the host!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and thank you for praying!

Prayer Targets: Praying Men; National Security; Defunding; FADA; Assault on Professors; New SOGI’S

I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting… 1 Timothy 2:8 NKJV

E.M. Bounds (1835-1913) wrote nine books on prayer, each a classic. All but one were published posthumously. Certainly, “he being dead still speaks”(Heb. 11:4 NKJV).  Here Bounds challenges men regarding their biblical call to pray:

In 1 Tim. 1, the Apostle Paul urges with singular and specific emphasis, “I will, therefore, that the men pray everywhere.” This is the high calling of the men of the Church, and no calling is so engaging, so engrossing and so valuable that we can afford to relieve Christian men from the all-important vocation of secret prayer. Nothing whatever can take the place of prayer. Nothing whatever can atone for the neglect of praying… No man is so high in position, or grace, to be exempt from the obligation to pray. No man is too big to pray, no matter who he is, nor what office he fills. The king on his throne is as much obligated to pray as the peasant in his cottage. None is so high and exalted or so lowly and obscure as to be excused from praying. Everyone’s help is needed to prosecute the work of God, and the prayer of each praying man helps to swell the aggregate. The leaders in position, in gifts and in authority are to be chiefs in prayer.

Civil and Church rulers shape the affairs of this world. And so civil and Church rulers themselves need to be shaped personally in spirit, heart and conduct, in truth and righteousness, by the prayers of God’s people. This is in direct line with Paul’s words: “I exhort therefore,” he says, “that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for rulers and all that are in authority”…

Men are to pray for all men, especially for rulers in Church and state, “that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.” Peace on the outside and peace on the inside. Praying calms disturbing forces, allays tormenting fears, brings conflict to an end. Prayer tends to do away with turmoil. But even if there be external conflicts, it is well to have deep peace within the citadel of the soul. “That we may lead a quiet and peaceable life.” Prayer brings the inner calm and furnishes the outward tranquility. Praying rulers and praying subjects, if they were world-wide, would allay turbulent forces, make wars to cease, and peace to reign.

“Men are to pray everywhere,” in the closet, in the prayer-meeting, about the family altar, and to do so, “lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting”…  That is, without bitterness against their neighbors or brethren; without the obstinacy and pertinacity of a strong will, and hard feelings, without an evil desire or emotion kindled by fires in the carnal nature. … Such praying in the hands of Christian men become divine agencies in God’s hands for carrying on God’s gracious purposes and executing His designs in redemption…

Men are also to pray “without doubting.” The Revised Version puts it, “without disputings” Faith in God, belief in God’s Word…“without question.” No doubting or arguing… no opinions, nor hesitancy, no questioning, no reasoning, no intellectual quibbling, no rebellion, but a strict, stead-fast loyalty of spirit to God, a life of loyalty in heart and intellect to God’s Word (E. M. Bounds, The Weapon of Prayer, Ch. 5. Prayerless Christians)

The Greekword for “men” in 1 Tim 2:8 is aner (Strong’s Concordance G435), which refers most often to individual males, as contrasted with anthropos (G444), which refers to humankind.  Obviously, this verse has universal application.  Without a doubt, many women are amazingly gifted and effective prayer leaders.  Yet I believe God gives a special charge to men as spiritual leaders to set the pace when it comes to prayer. The need for men to “lift up holy hands” and take up their positions in prayer for themselves, for their families, for our nation is one of the greatest needs in America today.

National Security Prayer Wall – I wrote you last month about an effort to build prayer-movement-wide virtual “ramparts,” a National Security Prayer Wall, to protect our nation from enemies within and without. Leaders in the national prayer movement came together recently in Colorado Springs to respond to this mounting need. What happened on Friday in Paris accentuates the urgency of this effort. Rep. Ted Poe (R-Texas) introduced a bill that would require the government to invoke Clause 5 of the NATO Treaty, which says, in effect, that “an attack on France is the same as an attack on the United States.” For Congress to declare war and the president refuse to comply and lead would be unprecedented.

The entire world has been waiting on President Obama to lead, but he seems to be incapable of doing so in the sphere of national security. Indeed, too many of his actions have been counterintuitive to the concerns and common sense of the American people and our allies. For example, he steadfastly opposed the majority of the American people and Congress, and negotiated a deal with the world’s leading terrorist sponsor, Iran, abandoning Israel and insuring that Iran will have nuclear weapons (even as 4 innocent Americans rot in Iranian prisons). He steadfastly refuses to acknowledge that radical Islam is America’s enemy, even to speak the words “radical Islam” with his lips. He has afforded Islamic terrorists all the rights of American citizens, even those who have committed mass murders while crying “Allahu Akbar!”  At the same time, he disrespects the victims by downplaying such acts (e.g., referring to Abdul Hasan and the Fort Hood Shooting as “workplace violence”). He has ignored the slaughter of Christians by ISIS, refusing to acknowledge it by even referring to “Christians” as victims, while he simultaneously charges Christians with atrocities akin to ISIS during the Crusades. He has held private conferences with Muslim leaders associated with the Muslim brotherhood in the White House. He applauded and aided the “Arab Spring” which led to the Islamist overthrow of several Mideast governments.  Many more examples can be cited, but the evidence that the president demonstrates sympathy toward Muslims and disregard, even contempt for Christians, continues to grow, as does his unwillingness to take common sense measures to protect Americans from the Islamist threat.

In February, FBI Director James Comey, in a contrast to the White House, warned America that ISIS terrorists are at work in all 50 states, recruiting Americans 24 hours a day. He said fighting terrorism is the Bureau’s first priority.  Clearly America’s national security is in jeopardy. Yet the President says he plans no changes in his present strategy ( see War Declaration Bill, FBI Director Comey Video; 50 State Investigations; Egyptian Aid Resumed).

  • Father, Jesus is the Good Shepherd who will never flee or withdraw from the wolves that seek to devour your flock. He lays down his life for the sheep. May we elect a president in 2016 who sees safety of our nation as first priority as Commander in Chief. Grant this person clear vision and all of the elements of Exodus 18:21: 1) ability, 2) the fear of God; 3) a love for the truth; and 4) a hatred for dishonest gain. May the candidates’ views on this matter be abundantly clear and may the one you have anointed become more and more obvious to believers and all American voters. May the growing prayer movement muster forces to build an effective National Security Prayer Wall now. May those who “stand in the gap” be used to preserve lives and maintain a peace that allows for the ministry of the Gospel, the saving of souls and the continued advance the Church (Ex 18:21; 1 Sam 2:10; 2 Sam 3:1; Neh 34:13-24; Ps 80: all; Jn 10:11-14; Rom 13:3-5; Acts 20:28-31; 1 Tim 3:15).

Finally, 1) President Obama has “doubled down” on his plan to bring ten thousand or more Syrian refugees to the U.S., calling Republicans who object “shameful.” Experts say there is no way to vet the immigrants and the plan will afford cover for terrorists seeking entrance to the U.S.  Since the Syrian revolution began, 2,098 Muslims and only 53 Christians have been admitted to the U.S. legally. 2) Vanderbilt professor and forthright Christian, Carol Swain, says a concerted effort is underway to excise tenured Christian professors from American universities. She is the subject of a protest begun by a Muslim student who objects to her perspective on Islam (see Tony’s comments). 3)  Dallas, Texas, Jacksonville and Pensacola, Florida are presently being pushed to adopt measures similar to the ordinance rejected recently by Houston voters. 4) Some pundits were declaring FADA and the defunding of Planned Parenthood dead for the year,  but prolife and pro-religious liberty advocates have not given up. Pray for champions in the Senate to prevail now that Senate Majority Leader McConnell has announced that defunding Planned Parenthood will be included in reconciliation! 5) A new study by Baylor University debunks previous studies that declare a decline of Christianity among young people in America and the world, declaring Islam to be the fasted growing religion, saying Christianity is clearly the fasted growing religion worldwide! Thank you for praying!

Prayer Targets: Rees Howell’s Praying Students; Defunding; FADA, FADA, FADA; Military Sexual Assault

Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. 1 Timothy 2:1-2 (NKJV)

Rees Howells (1879-1950), born in Wales and a coal miner by age 12, traveled to America in quest of a better life. He met Christians whose vital witness moved him to yield his life to Christ in 1906. Howells and his wife, Lizzie, followed God’s call to Southern Africa, where they saw the power and fruit of extraordinary prayer: thousands saved, many healed and years of sustained revival.

Set on a life of intercessory prayer, they were led back to Great Britain to establish the College of Wales and to teach children and adults the principles of prayer and faith they had learned. In 1924, starting with only ten pennies, they trusted God for £millions to build and run the School. Yet Howells is best known today for his students and their bold, faithful stand against Nazi Germany and their day and night intercessions against Hitler and his Nazi Troop movements. These excerpts are from Norman Grubb’s biography, Rees Howells: Intercessor:

During the four years previous to the outbreak of World War II… the Lord was changing the burden on Mr. Howells from local concerns, centering on the development of the College, to national and international affairs. “We were led to be responsible to intercede for countries and nations.” The Lord was preparing in the company at the College a special instrument of intercession for the coming world crisis.

In March, 1936, Mr. Howells began to see clearly that Hitler was Satan’s agent for preventing the gospel going to every creature. As he said later, “In fighting Hitler… we were not up against man, but the devil… For several years Mr. Howells stressed the fact that God must destroy him [Hitler], if the vision of the Gospel to every creature was to be fulfilled…

On the day of the declaration of war, he published the following statement: “The Lord has made known to us that He is going to destroy Hitler and the Nazi regime… which is the Antichrist, and release Germany, the land of the Reformation…” The declaration… sent them more determined than ever to their knees. They were now called… to give their lives over “to fight the battles of the Kingdom, as really as if called to fight on the Western Front.” God [gave them] responsibility from which they could never come free, until the enemy that God was dealing with should be destroyed “We may,‘ he wrote, “have many a set-back before He does… it may be that we, like the Israelites (Jdg 20), will have to cry out to God in our extremity for the help which will certainly come.”

Diaries of the daily College meetings reveal, not a fearful, not even chiefly a praying company, but rather… those already on victory ground… such clarity and assurance that theirs was the victory… If we say God was not with them, we may well ask ourselves this question: “Was there anywhere else in the whole of Britain or America or elsewhere among God’s people another such company, maybe a hundred strong, who were on their knees day by day, holding fast the victory by faith, while our soldiers across the water were retreating mile by mile, whole countries surrendering, and the enemy within sight of their goal?” Through all the years of the war, the whole College was in prayer every evening from seven o’clock to midnight, with only a brief interval for supper. They never missed a day… in addition to an hour’s prayer meeting every morning… very often at midday… and many special periods when every day was given to prayer and fasting (see Norman Grubb, Rees Howells: Intercessor, 1967)

Howell’s students closely followed the war news on radio and in print and prayed over every development. They literally fought the war on their knees. Are not such companies of prayer needed to withstand those who threaten the free world’s very existence today? Are not we called to be such warriors? And some to lead such a company or companies? Ought we not to read and reread this story and seek God as to our role in the spiritual battle?

Defunding Planned Parenthood – On the cusp of opportunity, when brilliant pro-lifers have documented and exposed Planned Parenthood’s ongoing morally outrageous (and possibly criminal) behavior via a series of undercover videos.  These shocking exposés reveal not only the wholesale slaughter of preborn infants but also what observers consider the illegal marketing of their body parts for profit. Even as the nation’s largest abortion business banks bigger profits, rewards its executives with high six-figure salaries, and builds bigger and more efficient abortion factories, American taxpayers are annually forking over a half billion dollars in federal and state funding.

Stalwarts in Congress have energetically worked this session to defund the abortion giant, but that fight is coming to a head right now. While the most pro-abortion president in history, liberals in Congress, and the mainstream media have used every trick in the book to whitewash the abortion giant and to turn the tables on the whistleblowers, conservatives in Congress have been working to forward legislation to defund.  Employing the budget reconciliation process, which requires the approval of just 51 percent of the members’ approval, the majority has brought the effort closer to a vote.

Yet as FRC President Tony Perkins points out, Democrats have raised a parliamentary rule called the Byrd Amendment (see Tony’s: Byrd Watching), which, if the Senate parliamentarian, Elizabeth MacDonough, rules the defunding measure non-germane to the purpose of reconciliation (i.e., does not adjust spending or reduce the deficit), a 60 vote threshold would be required for it to remain part of the reconciliation bill. Because the 60 votes are not there, the defunding effort would be deferred until future years, giving the American public time to forget the videos, just as they seem to have forgotten many other Planned Parenthood injustices. (Speaker Paul Ryan; Senate Could Drop Defunding; Tony Perkins)

  • God, our nation reels from the shedding of innocent blood, which cries out to you from the ground for justice. Intervene, we pray on behalf of the most innocent and vulnerable among us! Please help those who are our voices in Congress to do right! Please move the parliamentarian to rule “germane” a measure far more germane than thousands of measures passed in previous reconciliation bills.  May the right actions of Congress and the prayers of your people mitigate the judgment that is now upon America! (Gen 4:10; 1 Kg 2:31; 2 Kg 21:16; Ps 106:38; Pr 24:10-12; Mt 18:19)

Proliferation of SOGIs and the need for a FADA! – America is in a state of emergency with respect to religious liberty, but most Americans, including the majority of Bible-believing Christians, don’t yet fully realize it.  They will soon enough. Ask the believers in Houston.  Pastors and people in Houston arose to defeat the Sexual Orientation/Sexual Identity (SOGI) ordinance call HERO (Houston Equal Rights Ordinance). It would have allowed persons who choose to identify publically as the opposite of their biological sex to use the public bathrooms, showers and locker rooms, etc. of their choice.  This wrong-headed policy showed complete disregard for the privacy and security of those impacted.  Worse still, the ordinance included up to a $5,000 fine for interfering with a people who act out theses sexual fantasies in public. But the pastors and church members took a serious stand against this. Despite enduring intimidation and threats, having their petitions illegally rejected, and being outspent 3 to 1, the pastors and people prevailed with a vote of 61-39 against the ordinance. Dedicated LGBT activist Anise Parker, the outgoing mayor and champion of HERO, blamed the pulpits for the defeat of her pet ordinance. “They just kept spewing an ugly wad of lies from our TV screens and from pulpits,” Parker charged in her emotional concession speech. “This was a calculated campaign by a very small but determined group of right-wing ideologues and the ‘religionist right,’ and they know only how to destroy – not how to build up.” Too many Americans, especially young people, are buying into this.  Already 200 cities have SOGI ordinances akin to the one defeated in Houston. Where were God’s pastors and people in those cities?

Moreover, numerous acts by the White House and federal agencies, state human rights commissions, and numerous school administrators, mayors and city councils have demonstrated over the past years, but especially since Obergefell v. Hodges, that too many public “servants” have little regard for the First Amendment guarantee of religious liberty for every American.   Public officials, private business owners, educators, military personnel and others are being threatened, fined, demoted, discharged, fired and even jailed simply because their deeply held religious beliefs run counter to the new LGBT orthodoxy.  It is going to grow worse. A First Amendment Protection Act will help protect Christians from the kind of growing hostility, disregard for unalienable rights, and even outright persecution we see happening in more and more places (see H.R.2802; S.1598; “Why Congress Must Act Now!”; Sen. Lee Responds to NY Times; Search FRC Online).

  • Heavenly Father, help your people to understand and stir them to speak out and take action in their cities, counties and states. May your people, who hold the key to this matter, arise to be the salt and light for the defense of their God-given liberties and protection of their families. May we take FADA to heart and make it our mission to pray, tell others, and urge our members of Congress to co-sponsor and push for FADA’s passage. May God raise up watchmen to awaken sleepy believers and paralyzed churches. May the pastors everywhere, like those in Houston, lead with courage and success! (Ps 11:7; Is 56:1; Eze 22:26; Lk 4:18-19; Gal 5:1; 1 Jn 3:7)

Finally, The latest numbers of male-on-male sexual assaults in the military has dwarfed the number of opposite sex assaults. While most of our male troops are walking the line, this tiny number of homosexual men are responsible the vast majority of sexual assaults in the military. Tony Perkins, who led FRC to work overtime in an effort to stop the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, writes: “With a decision on open transgenderism barreling down the tracks, the administration can’t afford more negative publicity about where its sexual extremism is leading. Of course, this is exactly what military chiefs predicted in 2010 when Congress ignored their advice and rolled out the welcome mat for gays and lesbians. A half-decade later, with military disapproval of Obama, job dissatisfactionsuicides, and sexual assaults at their highest points ever, “we told you so” isn’t a message this administration wants to hear.” And please take time this Veteran’s Day to pray for our veterans and their families! Thank you for praying!

Prayer Targets: ‘Social Justice'; Obamacare; First Amendment Defense; HERO; Fed Transgender Tyranny

You shall do no injustice in judgment. You shall not be partial to the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty. In righteousness you shall judge your neighbor. Leviticus 19:15 (NKJV)

Dr. E. Calvin Beisner is a founder and national spokesman for the Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation. After studying at the University of Southern California, International College, Los Angeles, and the University of St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland (Ph.D.), Beisner taught at Covenant College and Knox Theological Seminary. Minister, teacher and author, Dr. Beisner has served as a Presbyterian elder (PCA and OPC) (see full bio). These edited excerpts are from his biblical worldview abstract on “Social Justice.”

Why does the Bible speak so much of doing justice for the poor? Scripture forbids partiality either in favor of or against the poor (Ex 23:3, 6; Lev 19:15). Yet, it also frequently associates help for the poor with justice (Ps 72:2, 4; 82:3; 140:12; Pr 29:14; 31:9). Why? Because the poor are particularly vulnerable to injustice in ways others aren’t… Many Hebrew words translated “poor” often emphasize not material destitution but vulnerability to oppression… We should administer justice for rich and poor alike… but focus on justice for the poor because they are so often victims of injustice… We are to exercise charity, or grace, toward them simply because they are poor.

While justice, then, is never partial to the poor (Ex 23:3), it recognizes that the poor are often vulnerable to injustice. Justice is therefore particularly apt to come to their aid in vindication, justification, or salvation from oppressors (see also Ps 140:12; Pr 29:7, 14; 31:9; Ecc 5:8; Is 3:14; 10:2; 11:4; 32:7; Jer 5:28; 22:16; Eze 18:17; Amos 5:12).

But aren’t we supposed to help the poor? Does this make it wrong to try to mitigate inequalities? No. It only makes it wrong to try to do so through force of government. Voluntary efforts are good and do no injustice. The reason for this distinction is that what is voluntary is a matter of grace (charity), not of justice. The Bible clearly teaches that we should “remember the poor” (Gal 2:10) and share with those who are in need (Dt 15:7–11; Eph 4:28).

But what the Bible never does is put responsibility for charity into the hands of the civil government. While it prescribes civil penalties for murder, adultery, theft, and false witness, it never hints at civil penalties for failure to give to the poor. Why? Because God ordained the state to dispense justice, and the church to dispense grace (Jn 1:17)… Granting unearned benefits… is not justice. When the state—the legal monopoly of force—gives benefits to some as “rights,” it must take them, by force if necessary, from others. Such a forceful removal violates their rights.

This distinction is fundamental to the gospel. Blurring it undermines the gospel. If care for the needy is made a matter of justice, then grace becomes law. Then, the needy—or those who merely profess to be needy—may claim the benefits of grace as their due justice. They look to the state for enforcement… leading to stultifying effects of wealth redistribution via the coercive power of the state. It blinds the poor to their deepest need: the grace of God through the gospel of Jesus Christ.

When God commands justice, we are to do justice, and the state is to enforce it. When He commands grace, we are to exercise grace. But it is precisely because grace is not justice, and because God ordained the state to enforce justice, but never to enforce grace. Indeed, “forced grace”—the real meaning of Progressive “social justice”—is a contradiction in terms. (See Beisner, Social Justice: How Good Intentions Undermine Justice and Gospel; Download free at FRC; read Rob Schwarzwalder’s introductory Blog).

ObamaCare Disaster – The third “open enrollment period” for ObamaCare is underway. It is estimated that half of those who enrolled last year will stick with the program despite premium increases as much as 60%. And though enrollments are down, they are bolstered by the fact that fines for not having health insurance that complies with the “Affordable Care Act” have increased this year to $695 per each household adult and $347.50 per child under 18, a maximum for any one household is $2,085 – the fine payable with your tax return. If you fail to pay, the IRS will deduct future tax refunds until your fine is paid. More than half of the uninsured people ObamaCare was supposed to save, remain uninsured. Most are in the plan because they have to be or because the federal subsidies have lured them. And State insurance co-ops, created to supply insurance plans via ObamaCare exchanges are struggling too, several collapsing in just the last few months, with New York, Kentucky and Arizona being the most recent.

Earlier this year the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office analysis revealed that by 2025, ObamaCare will require $2 trillion in spending and cost taxpayers $50 thousand for every person insured, the cost of subsidies for the growing American underclass and shrinking middle-class eligible for them. Offsetting that gargantuan cost will be new taxes, penalties and fees related to ObamaCare, approximately $643 billion.  President Obama promised families $2,500 in annual savings when peddling his healthcare scheme.  That was the fiction but here is the fact: Nearly all American families have experienced substantial increases in their health insurance costs.  Why are we continuing to tolerate this?  (32.3 Million Uninsured; 42 Million before ObamaCare; Fewer than 12 Million Insured under ACA, Goodbye Middle Class; Premiums Skyrocketing;  Mississippi 60% Higher, $6,800 Deductible;  Average Deductibles $5731; Perkins: Spooked by Health Costs; CBO Analysis

  • May God forgive His people for too quietly standing by and allowing Congress to approve a plan sold by strong-arm tactics and shameless deception, plan filled with the shedding of innocent blood, and built upon theory that departs from biblical truth and principles of American liberty that set us on a road to possibly irreversible socialism. May God have mercy and grant us repentance. May we elect a president and Congress in 2016 that meet his qualifications (Ex 18:21); that they will unite to overturn ObamaCare and replace it with a system based upon individual liberty and the free market. May we not add to our sin of complacency, rather, may Christians arise to be salt and light in the electoral process. Instead of a 25% Christian voter turnout, may we cast deciding votes for men and women across America who, under God, will set us on a course God can bless! (Dt 21:8-9; 1 Sam 8:4-21; Ps 5:4-6; Pr 28:4 51:14-15; 59:1-4; Eze 22:1-14)

First Amendment Defense Act (FADA) – Passage of FADA is a priority and for good reason. Since a series of federal court rulings that struck down state marriage laws and ultimately the Supreme Court Obergefell v. Hodges ruling that redefined marriage to include persons of the same sex, we have seen an increasing number of cases of raw discrimination against Christians who hold a biblical view of marriage. And there are instances of anti-Christian, anti-religious liberty actions unrelated to Court decisions, despite the First Amendment and numerous Supreme Court decisions in favor of religious liberty. Critics of FADA point out that we already have the First Amendment.  After all, religious liberty is the cornerstone of our Bill of Rights. However, as with marriage, some in our culture want to reinterpret and restrict that freedom to mean Christians are free to think what we want privately and perhaps even extend that right to express our beliefs within the four walls of our churches, but we are certainly not free to live out our faith in the public arena.  Christian beliefs, especially about human sexuality and marriage, really have no place in our schools, our workplaces, the military, even in our political expression.  Publically expressing beliefs in biblical sexuality and marriage is now viewed as ignorant, bigoted and even hate speech.  Acting on those beliefs in the context of the market place, the military, and public office has resulted in threats, demotion, fines, firing and even imprisonment.

Far too many judges, public officials and bureaucrats in our federal and state agencies, men and women who should know better, are disregarding the First Amendment and even holding it in contempt. Thus federal legislation is needed to put things back into balance. If Congress does not act soon, civilian and military courts could be filled with lawsuits by atheists, LGBT activists, etc. Furthermore, we will soon see the prediction come to pass made by the Obama solicitor general when the high court heard arguments over Obergefell v. Hodges. He said, in essence, that if same-sex marriage became public policy, groups that disagree with the policy would face problems with their tax exempt status. Obviously, Christians won’t get any help from the Courts or the White House. We must appeal to our elected members of Congress to defend us by law (H.R.2802; S.1598, Tony Perkins and Sen. Lee speak in Religious Liberty after Obergefell (video); Sen. Lee’s Response to NY Times Editorial on the First Amendment).

  • Thank God and pray for Rep. Raul Labrador (R-Idaho) and Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), who have taken the lead to introduce FADA in the House and Senate. May Christians stir Congress, with Rep. Paul Ryan (R–Wisconsin) as the new House Speaker, to focus on FADA. May those who pray also contact their Congressman and Senators, urging them to co-sponsor FADA and to make it a priority!  May God help our generation restore the First Freedom of the First Amendment and pass it on intact to our children and grandchildren! (Jdg 5:1-31; Is 56:1; Dan 3: 15-18; 11:32-35; Lk 4:18-19; Gal 5:1)

Finally, please join us in thanking God for the voters in Houston who overwhelmingly defeated HERO, an ordinance giving LGBT persons special rights, and transgender persons freedom to use opposite-sex public restrooms. This shows what can happen when pastors and churches unite to oppose immoral public policy (Is 5:20; Eze 3:16-22). Meanwhile, read and pray over this related, SHOCKING NEWS! Thank you for praying!

Prayer Targets: Dr. Dreisbach; FADA; Obamacare Defunding, Budget Deal; Soros; Israel; 50-Yard Prayer

Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. Galatians 5:1 KJV

American University Prof. Dr. Daniel L. Dreisbach, has written or edited eight books, including Thomas Jefferson and the Wall of Separation between Church and State and Faith and the Founders of the American Republic. Dreisbach writes about George Washington’s views on Religious liberty. These are excerpts:

We live in a time when religious liberty is more threatened than at any time in living memory.

While courts and commentators turn frequently to Thomas Jefferson and James Madison… Washington… was… the very embodiment of American civic ideals. He defined a vital, visible public role for religion in the civil polity and also affirmed a robust policy of religious liberty…

In the early days of the republic… letters were a favored…vehicle used to communicate to the public on important matters of principle and policy… An August 1789 letter to the Protestant Episcopal Church celebrated flourishing religious pluralism in the new nation:It affords edifying prospects indeed to see Christians of different denominations dwell together in more charity, and conduct themselves in respect to each other with a more Christian-like spirit than everin any former age, or in any other nation.

He reassured Methodist Bishops, Presbyterians, Baptists, Quakers, Catholics, and other religious minorities, including Jews. In a 1790 missive: “May the children of the Stock of Abraham” (Acts 13:26), the president wrote, “flourish in this land where everyone, in the words of an ancient Hebrew blessing, can “sit in safety under his own vine and fig tree, and there shall be none to make him afraid” (Micah 4:4).

More important, he substantively described a distinctively American view of religious liberty: “The Citizens of the United States of America have a right to applaud themselves for having given to mankind examples of an enlarged and liberal policy: a policy worthy of imitation. All possess alike liberty of conscience and immunities of citizenship. It is now no more that toleration is spoken of, as if it was by the indulgence of one class of people, that another enjoyed the exercise of their inherent natural rights. For happily the Government of the United States, which gives to bigotry no sanction, to persecution no assistance requires only that they who live under its protection should demean themselves as good citizens, in giving it on all occasions their effectual support.”

Washington clearly articulated America’s greatest contribution to, and innovation of, political society – the abandonment of a policy of religious toleration in favor of religious liberty.

The distinction between toleration and liberty is as follows: the former assumes an ecclesiastical and/or political establishment that extends or withdraws permission to practice one’s religion. The latter maintains that the free exercise of religion is a natural, inalienable right possessed equally by all citizens and placed beyond the reach of civil magistrates.

Religious liberty, in short, is irrevocable by the civil state. These letters reaffirmed a personal and national commitment to religious liberty and sect equality under the law. [They also helped] to quiet the fears of religious minorities that they would be excluded from civic life.

In our troubled times, with religious liberty imperiled by the intrusions and depredations of the civil state, we would do well to reflect on the wisdom of our first president…, and to pray that our leaders today would affirm Washington’s commitment to the sacred rights of conscience. (Dr. Daniel Dreisbach; These Letters Offer a Window into George Washington’s Views on Religious Liberty; February 16, 2015; Institute for Faith, Work & Economics (IFWE); View Dr. Dreisbach’s FRC Lectures: “The Bible & the Founding Fathers,” 5/14/10; “Scripture, Rights, and Religion in American History,” 3/20/13: “The Gettysburg Address: We Have Long Remembered,” 11/19/13.

First Amendment Defense Act (FADA) – Since the Supreme Court’s redefinition of marriage decision, the desperate need for FADA has been plain, but FADA has come to a near standstill as Congress tends to other priorities. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is supporting the federal courts as they impose same-sex marriage in the states; and 2) local jurisdictions like the Houston City Council and the Fairfax County Virginia School Board persist in passing sexual orientation/gender identity (SOGI) “rights” measure on communities and public school students. Such actions will continue to escalate unless 1) pastors and people get seriously involved, and 2) a federal FADA is passed to strengthen and enforce the First Amendment guarantees to the American people. Until then stories like Kim Davis, Barronelle Stutzman, Aaron and Melissa Klein and others will only proliferate across America with great harm to Christian families and religious liberty. Only prayer will jumpstart FADA! (See Supremes Help Lower Courts Impose Redefinition of Marriage; Houston Prop 1)

  • Pray that God’s people will awaken to the present and escalating threat we and our children face. May pastors enlist in the fight and lead their people to reclaim religious liberty. May FADA find new life and may Congress pass and the President sign it! (Jdg 5:1-31; Ps 11:7; Is 56:1; Eze 22:26; Lk 4:18-19; Gal 5:1; 1 Jn 3:7)

Defunding ObamaCare, Planned Parenthood –The House of Representatives voted Friday, 240-189 on a Continuing resolution (CR) reconciliation bill that would defund the bulk of federal funding for Planned Parenthood for one year, and to end parts of ObamaCare: the individual and employer mandates, the “Cadillac tax” and the medical device tax. The measure will by no means gut ObamaCare, but is a beginning. Because reconciliation is not subject to filibuster, only 51 votes are needed in the Senate to pass. However, the House GOP leadership agreed to a secret budget deal with the White House and House Democrats announced just before midnight Monday that would fund the government for two years, reportedly giving the President unlimited spending and borrowing authority so long as the military and domestic spending increases are matched dollar for dollar. So the secret budget deal that disallowed participation by rank and file conservatives, it appears, will trump the need for temporary funding via the CR and effectively scuttle the Planned Parenthood and ObamaCare defunding plan outlined above. The new bill could pass as early as late Wednesday in the House. Sen. Rand Paul promises a Senate filibuster and others may join him.

Finally, more prayer is needed: 1) I wrote about George Soros and the war he is waging against Christianity and American liberty but named only three groups he supports with his $ billions (See these links for dozens more: Media Research Center:Soros: Godfather of the Left and Organizations Funded Directly by George Soros). 2) Caroline Glick writes that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is behind the Knife Intifada and Dr. Michael Brown Exposes Media Bias Against Israel. 3) Planned Parenthood netted $765 million in profit over the past decade. 4) Help us build a Prayer Wall for America’s National Security! See Chaplain. (Lt. Col.) Edwin S. Davis’s overview of how religious faith was practiced in George Washington’s Army; 5) Rep. Randy Forbes (R-Va.) and Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.), together with 45 other members of the House and Senate, addressed a letter to Bremerton School District Superintendent Aaron Leavell and Bremerton High School Principal John Polm, expressing concern over reports that the Bremerton School District views Coach Joseph Kennedy’s tradition of quietly praying at the fifty yard line after the conclusion of school football games as unlawful under the Establishment Clause of the United States Constitution. They went on to explain our constitutionally guaranteed religious liberty. Please pray, too, for Tony Perkins and his family, and FRC friends and supporters who are now in Israel, meeting Israeli leaders, touring the land and hearing experts speak to our friendship with Israel and current Middle East events. Some key prayer warriors are part of the group! Thank you for praying!

Prayer Targets: Building a Prayer Wall for National Security; Speaker; Defunding, Houston

Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me. Ezekiel 3:17 NIV

I am returning to DC from Colorado Springs after taking part in a “National Security Prayer Initiative” organized by Rev. John Robb, Chairman of the International Prayer Council and a fellow member of the National Prayer Committee here in the U.S.

Robb has been instrumental in national and international prayer initiatives for many decades and convened the 2012 World Prayer Assembly (WPA – see video) in Jakarta, Indonesia, capital of the world’s largest Muslim nation.  Over 9,000 delegates, national prayer leaders from around the world, took part in that five-day assembly. When local believers joined the group on the final evening, over 100,000 filled the gigantic Bung Karno Stadium. Many left Jakarta spiritually afire: envisioned and determined by God’s grace to reproduce what they had seen and experienced in their own cities. Well over a million people have come together in large prayer and fasting events in that region since the Jakarta event. Members of the American delegation returned home with newfound hope and faith for sweeping revival and awakening in own nation.

If God can bring revival and awakening like that to a Muslim nation like Indonesia, is He not able to do as much in the U.S.A.?

National Security Prayer Wall, Ramparts – Leaders in the national prayer movement agree that repentance and revival in our churches and a biblical awakening are the only hope for America, and they are believing for both. But the 150 prayer leaders who met in Colorado Springs also recognize that biblical “watchmen,” those who understand the responsibility and power of prayer, must be concerned with warning and protecting the American people in the face of glaring, escalating threats to our national security. The three retired generals who addressed the group agreed that America faces several “existential,” threats, i.e., threats to our very existence as a nation. Scripture teaches, “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness’ (1Tim 2:1-2 NIV).

America’s president and military Commander-in-Chief, President Obama, has spent seven years making a radical sexual agenda and downsizing our military a priority over strengthening our military’s ability to fight and win wars. This is one reason our nation is in such jeopardy. He has been and is still diminishing our military forces (e.g., reducing troop strength, readiness, equipment, weapons, ships, aircraft – and many other factors by which military strength can be measured). He has allowed our border to remain substantially unsecured even as U.S. foreign policy is in shambles.

By prematurely pulling our troops from Iraq, many analysts believe President Obama created the vacuum that enabled the meteoric rise of ISIS and its wholesale rape and slaughter of Christians and other religious minorities (even moderate Muslims) and gave Russia opportunity to establish a stronghold in the Middle East. President Obama has minimized the threat imposed by such groups as the Muslim Brotherhood and now placed both Israeli and American security at risk through his recent nuclear deal with Iran. Moreover, by doing so, he has endangered our closest ally, Israel, something no other American president ever has done. Beside all this, the administration has implemented policies that have restricted our service personnel’s religious liberty and in some cases sought to silence our Chaplains from preaching the whole gospel,  truth our troops need above all things.

Those in Colorado heard from leaders like FRC’s Executive Vice-President, Lt. Gen. Jerry Boykin (U.S. Army, Ret.), Lt. Gen. Pat Caruana (USAF, Ret.) and Maj. Gen. Bentley Rayburn (USAF, Ret.). They heard from Kamal Saleem, a former Muslim Brotherhood terrorist, sent to the U.S. to recruit terrorists and set up sleeper cells (now a Christian, he risks his life daily to awaken the sleeping church).  And they heard from pastor/prayer leader Dutch Sheets, whom God has stirred to revive the “Appeal to Heaven” motto embraced by the American military during the War for Independence, and with it the prayer that accompanied it.

John Robb shared a  vision of the diverse groups that compose the national prayer movement coming together in unity to erect a round-the-clock prayer wall – “ramparts,” as with Nehemiah – around North America made up of praying Christians from every denomination, race and  ethnicity – believers in Canada, Mexico and elsewhere.

Many students of history know about the impact Rees Howells and his Christian school children in Great Britain had in day-and-night intercession for the Allies, as they tracked Hitler’s whereabouts and the Nazi troop movements, praying for miracles and hearing them answered  again and again until the final Allied victory (see The Role of Prayer in WWII).

I will keep you informed. But we should begin to be part of this invisible Prayer Wall immediately. The “Prayer and Action Points” below were written by Gen. Caruana:

  • As a nation and God’s people the church we would seriously heed the warnings God has graciously provided so we would not be laid low in today’s wilderness. We need to repent of rejecting God’s wisdom and ask Him to renew the desire in our national and church leaders to see His wisdom as His provision for our security (Dt 4:9; Ps 119:25-26; Eze 3:17; 1 Cor 10:1-11; Jas 3:17 ).
  • We need to ask the Lord to open the eyes of both His church and our senior national leadership to the perils of entering the Iran nuclear deal, and to beseech the Lord to lead our nation’s leadership to receive God’s wisdom and reject the binding of the US in a partnership with lawlessness (Numbers 22:31; Is 30:1-3; 2 Cor 6:14-15).
  • For leaders that will not compromise any elements of our national security and respond with clear resolve to threats either internal or external to our nation’s interest. Leaders who recognize and understand who our enemies are and how to wisely deal with them. Leadership with a worldview consistent with the principles upon which our nations has depended since God allowed the United States of America to become a nation (Pr 8:1-20; 2 Cor 6:14-18).
  • Pray for unity first within the Body of Christ so that our nation can witness what true Christ-like unity is. That we as one nation under God would reject the forces that divide our nation and make us far more vulnerable to a weakened security (Lk 11:17; Jn 17: all).
  • Pray for leaders who will arise with the courage to make the right decisions concerning the social changes being made to ensure that our military remains equipped and combat-ready to protect our country (Ex 18:21; Pr 1:24-31; Tit 1:4-6).
  • Pray for God’s wisdom to penetrate into the hearts of our congressional leadership to recognize their responsibility as our elected representatives and legislate well-defined budgets that empower our military forces to keep our nation strong and safe (Luke 14:28-32; 1 Tim 2:1-8).

Finally, 1) Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) says he may run for Speaker of the House if he can obtain certain assurances in advance. Speaker Boehner has announced the GOP Caucus vote on October 28, and the House-wide vote October 29. 2) V.P. Joe Biden has announced that he will not run for President. 3) The House will vote to on a measure to defund Planned Parenthood for one year and on parts of Obamacare this Friday. Some conservatives seem to have abandoned the cause. Please pray and call your Representative. 4) FRC stood with pastors in Houston when their sermons were subpoenaed for leading a petition drive to stop of HERO – an ordinance that would have given transgender men the right to use women’s and girls’ bathrooms, locker rooms, showers etc., and required a $5000 fine against anyone who tried to stop them. The Texas Supreme Court overruled the city’s mayor and demanded that citizens be given the right to vote on the ordinance this November 3rd (see Current News; FFFF Ad; I Stand Sunday). This is a bellwether case akin to bills being pushed by LGBT activists across America, in some places with little resistance. Pray for a win that will encourage pastors to lead when confronted with similarly misguided efforts in their communities! Thank you for praying!

Prayer Targets: Columbus; First Amendment; EEOC Tyranny; Defunding; Prayer Tour; Knife Intifada

Dr. Kenyn Cureton, FRC V.P. for Church Ministries, has written an inspiring, informative and spiritually rich 365-day devotional called Lost Episodes in American History. Here are excerpts about Christopher Columbus, whose discovery of a “new world” radically changed world history.

On November 6, 1492, Christopher Columbus wrote to King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain: “I maintain, Most Serene Princes, that if they [the American Indians] had access to devout religious persons knowing the language, they would all turn Christian, and so I hope in Our Lord that Your Highnesses will do something about it with much care, in order to turn to the Church so numerous a folk, and to convert them…

“And after your days… you will leave your realms in a very tranquil state, and free from heresy and wickedness, and will be well received before the eternal Creator, to whom I pray to grant you long life and great increase of many realms and lordships, and both will and disposition to increase the holy Christian religion, as hitherto you have done.” (Cureton, Page 394-395).

On March 15, 1493, Christopher Columbus returned to Spain after his first journey to the new World. Upon his return, he wrote a letter to King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella:

“I gave them many beautiful and pleasing things, which I had brought with me, for no return whatever, in order to win their affection, and that they might become Christians and inclined to love our King and Queen and Princes and all the people of Spain…

“They do not practice idolatry; on the contrary, they believe that all strength, all power, in short all blessings, are from Heaven, and I have come down from there with these ships and sailors…

“This is a circumstance most favorable for what I believe our most serene King especially desires, that is, their conversion to the holy faith of Christ; for which, indeed, so far as I could understand, they are very ready and prone…

“But what has been accomplished is great and wonderful, and not at all proportionate to my deserts, but to the sacred Christian faith, and to the piety and religion of our Sovereigns. For what is the mind of man could not compass the spirit of God has granted to mortals. For God is wont and listen to his servants who love his precepts, even in impossibilities, as has happened to me in the present instance, who have accomplished what human strength has hitherto never attained…

“Therefore let King and Queen and Princes, and their most fortunate realms, and all other Christian provinces, let us all return thanks to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who has bestowed so great a victory and reward upon us; let there be processions and solemn sacrifices prepared; let the churches bedecked with festal boughs; let Christ rejoice upon Earth as he rejoices in Heaven, as he foresees that so many souls of so many people heretofore lost are to be saved; and let us be glad not only for the exaltation of our faith, but also for the increase of temporal prosperity, in which not only Spain but all Christendom is about to share.”*

Christopher Columbus defied the odds, endured the ridicule, and witnessed what he believed to be miracles in the discovery of a “New World,” which has ultimately become the greatest launch-point of Christian missions in history. The forward-looking faith of Columbus is another lost episode in American history (see Cureton, Lost Episodes in American History – Devotional;; see Samuel Eliot Morison, Journals & Other Documents on the Life & Voyages of Christopher Columbus, New York: Heritage Press, 1963, pp 65, 72, 91). (Hear Tony Perkins & Dr. Cureton discuss Columbus Day – min. 37:9; Tony & David Barton – min. 17:16).

Revisionists have labored night and day to rewrite the story of the faith-filled man who discovered America – magnifying his flaws and failures. Some cities have gone so far as to rename Columbus Day, Indigenous People’s Day. Like the heroes of faith in Scripture, Columbus was shaped by his time and was, like all of us, flawed, but people of faith who study the record have little doubt that God led this man to discovery that changed the world!

First Amendment Defense Act (FADA) – FRC President Tony Perkins believes preserving religious liberty is the most important priority for God’s people in our country for the foreseeable future. Historically, tyrants have made every effort to silence Christians because their truth-speaking was the greatest threat to their power. All other American liberties spring from and hinge upon the essential liberty of faith and conscience. President George Washington, in his Farewell Address (1796) warned, “Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens. The mere politician, equally with the pious man, ought to respect and to cherish them.”

Today, the foundation stone of the First Amendment is under concerted assault. A seeming host of well-funded organizations and leaders in every cultural sphere—atheists, homosexual activists, Islamists, Satanists, and others compose a movement dedicated to silencing Bible-believing Christians and stripping them of their First Amendment protections. Amid the present strains in Congress, the vital First Amendment Defense Act (FADA) has been pushed to the back burner.

Too many Americans have come to take religious liberty for granted and either are unaware or are ignoring the dizzying escalation of religious liberty violations in our nation. Passage of FADA cannot wait. Without it, conscientious objectors to the HHS mandate (e.g., the Little Sisters of the Poor, Christian universities, etc.) and same-sex marriage (e.g., wedding vendors, chaplains, county clerks, Christian employers and even, potentially, parents who labor to bring up their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord) will be all be in grave jeopardy— subject to costly lawsuits from individuals, local jurisdictions, even the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

May Christians everywhere wake up to the urgent threat to religious liberty in our nation – and take action! Just as our forefathers created the First Amendment, may America’s pastors, teachers and political leaders inform and equip Americans to understand the issues at stake and demand that their elected leaders pass the First Amendment Defense Act this year! (Ps 11:7; Is 56:1; Eze 22:26; Lk 4:18-19; Gal 5:1; 1 Jn 3:7)

The EEOC and the Equality Act – American employers may be safe from passage of the so-called “Equality Act,”which has been described as the Employment Non-Discrimination ACT (ENDA) “on steroids,” so long as the GOP majority remains in power, but the EEOC is trying to bypass Congress and accomplish many of the same ends as the Equality Act.

This past June the EEOC conferred special federal employment protections to persons who identify as LGBT, even though Congress has passed no law empowering them to do so. The EEOC has revised the rules and now interprets “discrimination on the basis of sex,” a protection already in our laws, to mean not only discrimination based on physical gender, but to include discrimination based upon a wide variety of sexual practices and self-professed orientations.

This move has already had disturbing consequences.  In September, a Federal District Court applied that line of reasoning in its ruling against an Arkansas business that dismissed a transgendered person. Two weeks ago, a man newly-hired to direct a Catholic assisted living facility in Virginia was dismissed when the bishop in the Catholic Diocese of Virginia learned that he was married to his homosexual partner of 30 years. The man filed an EEOC complaint.

Another federal district court permitted the EEOC to intervene in a lawsuit brought by a transgendered person fired after refusing to sign an agreement promising to abide by the company’s dress code requiring employees to dress according to their born gender. The EEOC is just getting started! (see  Virginia EEOC Complaint; Arkansas Federal Court Ruling, EEOC Intervenes in LA Transgender Case; EEOC Change Law without Congress).

May God and the U.S. Congress intervene to stop the EEOC from using tax dollars illicitly to impose the homosexual activist agenda against employers across America, and may judges who make law from the bench similarly be stopped. (2 Sam 23:3; Mt 7:23; 1 Cor 6:8-10; Eph 5:11; 2 Tim 4:2 ; 1 Jn 3:8; Jude 22-24)

1) Planned Parenthood is attempting to silence its critics by calling for its affiliates to take reimbursement for only “actual costs” associated with trafficking in aborted baby parts. But why, if everything they were doing was “legal and ethical,” do they need to change? And since Planned Parenthood doesn’t actually “harvest” baby parts and organs but lets outside companies do this, for what are they being reimbursed? (GOP Doubles down on Planned Parenthood Probe; No more Reimbursements?)

2) Franklin Graham has launched his 50 State Prayer Tour for 2016. His tour slogan, is “Pray. Vote. Engage,” his press release saying that they are calling believers “to live and promote biblical principles at home, in public and at the ballot box.” See Graham’s interview with Todd Starnes regarding the Christian martyrs in Oregon and the Middle East.

3) Pray for the Israeli people and the escalating “Knife Intifada” against them.

Thank you for praying!

Prayer Targets: Soros; Pope & Davis; Oregon Massacre; Speaker Vote; P. Parenthood; Army Sgt.; Israel

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. John 10:10 NKJV

In 2004, New York Times Journalist Richard Poe wrote an exposé of billionaire George Soros’ plans for America, published in NewsMax Magazine. His article has been quoted countless times over the last 11 ½ years. Soros has dedicated his billions to bringing down America. As you read, remember that the figures in this article are outdated. Soros’ net worth, $7 billion in 2004, is $24.5 billion in 2015. Multiply the numbers to get a picture of how Soros is influencing the political and public policy landscape today. Soros will spend multiplied millions to defeat conservative and Christian candidates in the next 13 months and to support candidates who share his worldview. Soros, an 85 year old avowed atheist, has little time to repent. While we pray for his salvation, let us pray that God will defeat his evil plans for America (see Human Events’ short 2011 article, Top Ten Reasons George Soros is Dangerous).

One of the World’s Richest Men is attempting to influence the U.S. presidential election this year. His net worth is at least [$24.5 Billion]. He reportedly controls additional billions in assets through his investment funds. His foundations give away millions each year. He [bought] the 2004 presidential election for the Democrats. He [talked] openly of driving President Bush from office and of forcing “regime change” in the United States. He says he might even spend his whole fortune to make this happen. He has likened himself to the Messiah. George Soros means business…

Soros’ words should not be taken lightly… the [85]-year-old speculator in global currency has gone belly to belly against some of the world’s mightiest nations, risking billions in daredevil, do-or-die contests of financial power. He has won such battles before. He stands a good chance of winning this one [and he did ultimately enable Barak Obama’s ascent].

He has reportedly pumped at least $35 million [in 2004] into the Democrats’ campaign and vows to raise a total of $95 million [2004] through a network of “Section 527″ front groups designed to circumvent the McCain-Feingold ban on “soft money” contributions to political parties. The Federal Election Commission places no limits on donations to the shadowy 527s and requires no disclosure of the donors and the amounts they have given. Consequently, no one really knows how much money Soros has lavished — or will — on the Democrats [the Citizens United Decision allows him much greater latitude today]…

Radical Agenda – Meanwhile, Soros’ private philanthropy, totaling nearly $5 billion [2004], continues undermining America’s traditional Western values. His giving has provided funding of abortion rights, atheism, drug legalization, sex education, euthanasia, feminism, gun control, globalization, mass immigration, gay marriage and [many] other radical experiments in social engineering. What drives George Soros? … And what about our country offends him so deeply that he would tell a British newspaper, during a time of war that he wants to “puncture the bubble of American supremacy”? (Richard Poe, 2004, NewsMax Magazine, read the rest of the lengthy but very helpful article, archived HERE; Bracketed Items added).

Soros is the primary supporter and driver of Media Matters,, and Center for American Progressall left wing orgs that advocate for Soros’ broadly anti-Christian agenda.

Kim Davis, The Pope and the Media –Rowan County, Kentucky Clerk, Kim Davis, while on her way to the Values Voter Summit in Washington, D.C. to receive FRC’s 2nd Annual “Cost of Discipleship Award,” received a surprise call from Pope Francis’s consort.  He invited her for a private audience with the Pope, who was in D.C. as part of his U.S. Tour. She accepted. When they met, the Pope commended Kim for her “courage” and asked her to pray for him. Kim, in turn, asked him to pray for her. All this resulted from Kim’s much publicized refusal to use her name to issue same-sex marriage licenses, seeking instead an accommodation for her conscientious objection. She chose jail over obeying a federal judge’s order to issue the licenses. The leftwing and mainstream media have radically distorted the Papal audience, characterizing it a chance meeting, a casual encounter, a few brief words to a woman in the crowd, insignificant.  Even the Vatican’s communications department has seemed to try to placate the liberal press and homosexual activists, by assuring them that the Pope was not expressing approval for every “particularity” of Kim’s case. Experts say the incident reveals a division within the Vatican, where some in the hierarchy advocate for a softer stand on homosexuality. The mainstream press has magnified a false accusation by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) that Liberty Counsel, founded by Kim’s attorney, Matt Staver, is a hate group. SPLC is the same group whose hate-map inspired a lone gunman to shoot FRC’s building manager when he entered FRC headquarters with the intent to murder FRC staff (see: Davis’ Attorney labeled a Hate Group; Perkins: Pope-pourri of Distortion; Listen to Tony Perkins & Matt Staver at 18:24-33:55 and 42:35-4:55).

  • Pray that God will sort out the lies, expose the liars and prevent the distortion from distorting the thinking of the America people. The people must understand that religious liberty must be sacrosanct in our nation if liberty is to survive! (Pr 26:24-25; Dan 6:7-10; Acts 4:18-19; 5:28-29; Eph 5:6-14; 2 Th 2:7-17).

Mass Murder of Christians in Oregon – Last Thursday a lone gunman entered Umqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon and opened fire, murdering nine people and injuring nine more. Among those murdered were students, a teacher, and a woman in a wheelchair. The shooter singled out Christians for murder and shot non-Christians in the leg. This tragic story is one in a growing number of instances in which Christians have been singled out for violence. Meanwhile the President, as he has in all shooting incidents, has used the tragedy to advocate stricter gun control. He will travel to Oregon on Friday to visit the families of the victims.Story;  Graham: Targeting Christians, Rising Persecution; Brown: The Demonization of Christianity; Pres. Obama: “We Should Politicize Gun Control!”; Transcript; Executive Order Against Guns;Visit; No Mention of Christians?, Hosea: Sowing Abortion Reaping Violence).

  • May God comfort the families of Oregon’s fallen. May the church gird itself and arise to enter the fray and to boldly stand for Christ in the public square.  May believers exercise their stewardship responsibility to elect strong advocates for true religious liberty to office who will pass laws that strengthen the First Amendment and not weaken it! (Ex 18:21; Josh 1:27; 23:6; 2 Chr 32:7; Jer 1:17; Acts 22:24-29 Gal 5:1, 13; Rev 12:11)

Finally, please pray for: 1) The House of Representativeswill vote for the new Speaker October 29th..  But tomorrow (10/8) the Republican Caucus (247 members), will vote privately. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (Calif.), Jason Chaffetz (Utah), and Daniel Webster (Fla.) will be grilled by as many as 80 conservative members, representing four conservative groups within the Caucus. They have power to prevent any candidate from winning (How it Works). 2) The effort to reallocate taxpayer funding from Planned Parenthood to non-abortion-performing Community Health clinics continues. After failing to pass the measure via attachment to the Senate Continuing Resolution (CR), leading pro-life organizations are calling on Congress to defund the largest portion of taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood that is delivered through Medicaid – in the Medicaid Funding reconciliation process, now underway. Today, the House will vote to create a Select Committee under Energy & Commerce,  to investigate the procurement and sale of fetal tissue, especially as it pertains to the abortion industry (e.g., Planned Parenthood).  3) Sgt. 1st Class Charles Martland, who acted to end the repeated rape of a young Afghan boy by an Afghan officer, is being punished for his brave and righteous action. Please pray and sign FRC’s petition to support Sgt. Martland. Tony will deliver them soon. 4) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who last week shamed the entire UN in a powerful speech for failing to stand with Israel against the Iran Nuclear Deal, which is akin to a vote for Israel’s destruction. God warns that he will curse the nations that curse Israel. Will our intercessions ask God to stay his judgment upon the U.S.? Thank you for praying!
