“God Save the United States and This Honorable Court!”

The soon to be considered, all-important Marriage Case

A Prayer Strategy

“God save the United States and this honorable court” is the statement that has started every Supreme Court session for the last 100+ years.  Today we must pray… save the Supreme Court and our nation, or save us from this court as they decide the legal fate of marriage.

Who Will Stand in the Gap for Marriage at the 11th Hour?  The next few months… Feb – June 2015 could very well be last stand for the integrity of biblical marriage in America.  The Supreme Court will hear four same sex marriage cases this term that may well put the last nail in the coffin of marriage as a God ordained foundation of society.

The battle to preserve marriage has now run its course.  The biblical view of marriage has been successfully marginalized so much that…

Supreme Court to rule on 4 Same Sex Marriage Cases

From Supreme Court (SCOTUS) website & blog

February 27, 2015 – Same Sex Couples file briefs
March 27 – States lawyers file briefs – Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee
April 17 – Same Sex couples lawyers file responses
April 20 through 29 – Oral Arguments for all cases
June 2015 – Decision handed down

The focus of the Court’s review will be a decision issued in early November by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit that upheld bans on same sex marriage in Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee.  Thus the Supreme Court will be addressing the only Court of Appeals that upheld state amendment bans against same sex marriage.  This is significant because it’s really the last hope of upholding state rights to domestic marriage because the Supreme Court settled a fundamental issue in a summary ruling in 1972 in the case of Baker v. Nelson where they ruled that the federal courts have no jurisdiction to rule on matters of domestic relations, including marriage in the states.  That means that the regulation of marriage has to be left to the states to decide.  So it appears to me that their decision here would either support or throw out state rights to domestic law as well as confirming appellate court rulings making same sex marriage the law of the land in the United States of America. Let’s be clear, in legalizing gay marriage, we are seeing the pinnacle of secularist “living constitution” thinking.   Cal Thomas explained in a recent article,

Secular progressives believe in a “living Constitution” that constantly “evolves” to serve the people.
The Founders (and Blackstone) believed the people are best served when they conform to laws established by God.  Blackstone was a contemporary of America’s Founders, the founders referred to him more than any other English or American authority. It wasn’t until the middle of the last century that the Supreme Court began repudiating Blackstone and started making law and creating rights.   As noted on the website Blackstone Legal Fellowship, “Blackstone called this concept (of endowed rights) ‘ultra vires,’ which means it is beyond the authority of man to write a law that violates God’s law. Blackstone also said that law is fixed, it is uniform, and it is universal. It does not change based on who the president is, or who holds judicial positions. It is the same law for everyone at all times and in all places.”

Now if you call yourself a bible believing follower of Jesus Christ, know this.  This has all happened on our watch.

Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.  1 Cor 16:13

Twenty one Egyptian Christians (and many others) preferred to have their heads chopped off rather than deny their faith in Christ.  Meanwhile here in land of the free and the home of the brave, marriage, the fundamental witness of Christ and his church to the world, has been thoroughly adulterated, with even the President of the United States advocating for same-sex marriage, using his pen, his website and his bully pulpit to push it.  But we can’t blame the president for this one.  It’s been in process since before no-fault divorce which became the law in California in 1969.  As one brother said recently… it’s as if we want to become Sodom and Gomorrah.

How many hours have you spent on your knees crying out to God about it?  Well the Lord impressed on me recently to tell everyone that you get one last chance and then it’s time for the full “Harbinger” effect to hit America.

It’s not like people have not been praying about the marriage debacle.  But since we are at the 11th hour, and we truly need a miracle for marriage to survive, perhaps we should take a minute and ask the Lord why our prayers have gone unanswered?

Is there any God-given strategy that might turn this battle at the United States Supreme Court when it appears all is lost?

As you consider your role as a prayer warrior for marriage over the next several months, picture yourself standing before God and the subject comes up about taking a public stand for Christ in Matthew 10…

32 “Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven. 33 But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven.

Additional info…   Two sitting Supreme Court Justices have officiated same sex weddings

In Sept 2014 Justice Elena Kagan officiated a same-sex wedding, a Maryland ceremony for her former law clerk and his husband.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has previously officiated at the wedding of gay and lesbian couples, including at the Supreme Court. Ginsburg most recently performed the wedding of Washington theater director Molly Smith.

***A prayer point: If those two justices simply recused themselves… we would probably win the cases due to majority vote.

Federal appellate courts have already overturned state marriage amendments in many states, so this is it.

Ten Reasons I’m Asking God to Intervene to Save Marriage

  1. His Word defines marriage and God’s definition of marriage is worth fighting for.  Since all other means of fighting for the legal definition of marriage are exhausted, only the Lord can intervene.
  2. I genuinely care about homosexuals and fear for their souls.
  3. As a man of God, I believe God calls me to protect my family, my community, and my country against evil and spiritual darkness.
  4. Legal Precedent – When the U.S. Courts legalize gay marriage they granting special rights to individuals, violating religious freedoms, and I believe there will be major consequences.  We are already seeing the beginning of it… and it will get much worse.
  5. Love – Accepting and celebrating a sinful relationship is not loving those individuals.
  6. Children – I believe it’s heartbreaking to force children to grow up in same sex households.  It’s a lie to teach children that the “marriage” of two men is the same as their mother and father’s marriage.  Yet that is what public schools must now do regardless of how parents feel about it.
  7. I believe that the biblical marriage covenant is sacred and the bedrock of a stable society.
Eph 5:25 25 For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her 26 to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word.  27 He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault.
  8. We are commanded to pray for our leaders.  And they are about to codify a huge mistake.
I Tim 2 tells us to pray for our leaders.
  9. It will take a miracle to save marriage at this point.
Isa 43:11 “I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from me there is no savior.”
  10. God beckons us to bring these type of cases before him.
Isa 43 25-26 “I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.  Review the past for me, let us argue the matter together; state the case for your innocence.”

When the courts turned away from Blackstone, they turned away from our first principles, our Founding Fathers, and the Declaration of Independence which all agree that  “rights come from God”.
