Therefore let everyone who is godly pray to you while you may be found.Psalm 32:6a
Dear Praying Friends,
Evangelist Billy Graham called his daughter, Anne Graham Lotz, “the best preacher in the family.” Anne’s message consistently calls people to a personal relationship with God through His Word. Author of 11 books, some award-winning, Anne leads AnGel Ministries. Anne lost her husband, Danny, last year, after 3 years of declining health. These excerpts are from her recent Blog It’s Time to Get Serious!:
In Psalm 32:6, the Psalmist implies that there comes a time when God cannot be found. A time when God hides Himself. A time that I believe may have begun in America.
Our nation is in a mess. Why? Could it be because America is losing God’s blessing? His favor? Could our sin be provoking His judgment? Judgment that is not necessarily in the form of a nuclear dirty bomb, or another ISIS attack, or an economic collapse. But a Romans 1 judgment as God backs out of our national life and turns us over to ourselves.
In the Old Testament, God moved in judgment on His own beloved nation of Judah. Interestingly, His judgment was a 22-year process. God moved slowly, giving plenty of opportunity for Judah to repent of her sin, turn to Him, and so escape the judgment. But with all of God’s warnings, Judah became even more defiant. More disobedient. More wicked. She insisted on her right to immorality and idolatry. God became her enemy. He sent in the Babylonians to destroy Jerusalem, the temple, and the people. Those who were not taken captive were slaughtered in the streets (2 Chr 36:15-19).
God warns a nation that judgment is coming. He doesn’t want any to perish. But if a nation does not heed His warnings, He unleashes His anger and there is nothing — no one — who can prevent it. If God would judge His own beloved nation of Judah, why would we think America could escape?
So… if we are coming under the judgment of God — If He is giving us over to ourselves, removing His blessing, protection, and favor – the solution will not be found in politics or the economy or the military or technology. The solution will be found on our knees as we humble ourselves, pray, seek God’s face, and repent of our sin. Then plead for Him to return to us as we return to Him.
Now is the time to get serious about repentance and prayer. As I addressed the crowd gathered on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC on April 9th, I spoke of when Ezra led a great revival in Judah, the people stood in the pouring rain for three days repenting of their sin. (Ezra 10:9) I wonder…had God made it hard on His people to test the seriousness of their repentance?
Those gathered on the Washington Mall were also standing in the pouring rain…and snow…with temperatures in the 20ºs. Was God also testing our seriousness to seek His face, pray, and repent?
God promises: You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. (Jer 29:13) There can be no casual, half-hearted turning to God—not if we want Him to return to us. God emphasizes this in Joel 2:12-14: ‘Even now… return to me with all your heart… Rend your heart and not your garments…Who knows? [God] may turn and have pity and leave behind a blessing.
Some of the prayers and repentance calls I have heard in the church or at prayer events seem to be a rending of garments. An outward show to impress. A going through the motions of repentance. But the pleading seems to be contrived and hollow instead of broken-hearted and contrite.
Only God knows those who are rending their hearts as they seek Him. But I am led to ask myself…how truly serious am I about seeking God on behalf of our nation? When was the last time I fasted and wept and mourned and confessed the sin of our nation as though it were my own? I believe the future of America hangs on the answer to that question.
National Day of Prayer Task Force — On the eve of the National Day of Prayer 2016, Mrs. Shirley Dobson announced that Anne Graham Lotz would succeed her as Chairman of the National Day of Prayer Task Force. Anne believes God has called and prepared her for this task. She is asking Christians across America to set aside May 15-23 to pray and fast for our nation.
- May God grant Anne Graham Lotz grace and wisdom to lead the National Day of Prayer Task Force and to expand the prayer movement for which the National Day of Prayer serves as anchor. May 2 Chronicles 7:14 be fulfilled in our generation and May we see our children and grandchildren’s generation restore America to the God of the Bible! (Ex 34:7; Josh 14:9; 1 Sam 16:13; 2 Chr 6:41-42; Ps 103:17; 105:14-16; Is 58:12; Lk 4:18, 18:1-8).
Pentagon Chaplain Spoils NDP National Event — The annual National Day of Prayer (NDP) observance on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC was remarkable by every measure. The preaching, prayer and worship evidenced the presence and power of the Holy Spirit with one major exception. The Pentagon Chaplain’s closing politically correct prayer that future gatherings of the largely evangelical NDP would include Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs struck a discordant tone. The Chaplain put forth his own Pentagon-style observance as the model for acceptable NDP observances in the future. His multicultural, polytheistic prayer, without even mentioning the name of Jesus, gave attendees a glimpse into the new religious order in the Armed Forces. It is an increasingly oppressive environment in which chaplains and service personnel are reprimanded and disciplined for expressing their Christian faith in traditional ways while being pressured to conform to a multicultural, “COEXIST” kind of faith approach that is also affirming of LGBT lifestyles. In fact, the Chaplain not-so-subtly rebuked the mostly evangelical group for not adequately loving others regardless of orientation, gender, lifestyle or religion. Translation: Enthusiastically affirm the LGBT agenda or you are being a hateful bigot. (see Faith, Pentagon Style; Roiled at NDP; Tony Perkins: The Military Doesn’t Have a Prayer at NDP).
- May champions of true religious liberty and not political correctness be elected at every level. May they end the march against orthodox Christianity in favor of foreign faiths that have played little part in the history and heritage of America. May they protect the freedom to believe and live according to those beliefs in the military. (Ex 20:3; 23:13; Josh 10:7; 23:7; Jn 14:6; Gal 5:1; Jude 1:3).
Obama Justice Department v. North Carolina — After the DOJ threatened North Carolina with withholding funds from schools and other federally funded programs, it gave Governor Patrick McCrory an ultimatum to overturn H.B. 2 or suffer the consequences of federal tyranny.
With Monday as the deadline, McCrory preempted the feds with a lawsuit, but the DOJ reacted with a lawsuit of its own. The NC Legislature passed H.B. 2 to protect its citizens’ safety and privacy by prohibiting NC jurisdictions from enacting ordinances that force schools and other public facilities to open showers, locker rooms, and bathrooms for use by persons of the opposite biological sex. The Obama administration has illegally and illogically reinterpreted federal sex discrimination laws, intended to protect women from discrimination in 1964, to protect those who suffer from gender confusion in 2016. Yet this same administration has no regard for the privacy and safety of the vast majority of Americans, children included, who do not want to share their bathroom with members of the opposite biological sex. This matter will likely go to the Supreme Court. With Justice Scalia gone, the Obama administration wants to make its mark while the Court is weak (see WSJ: Bathroom Fight Escalates; Perkins: Anything You Can Sue, I Can Sue Better!; Bathroom Vanity! Feds Think They Can Trample N.C. Law; Justice Is Swerved).
- May this be the “Waterloo” that checks the momentum of sexual politics triumphing over Christian faith and common sense in America! May North Carolina prevail in court. May the administration be rebuked for its misplaced and ungodly priorities. May the sexual anarchy movement be set back and may sensible Americans rise up and reject these senseless initiatives when they come to their locales. May God’s pastors and people lead the way! (Eze 2:6; Ps 64:5-7; 94:11; Is 28:5-6; Jn 10:1-21; 1 Cor 6:12; Eph 6:10-20; Jude 1:4; 1:15; 1:18)
Finally, 1) A Harvard Law professor is telling his fellow liberals that the culture wars are over and the victorious Left should treat conservative Christians the way the allies treated Germany and Japan after World War II, offering no quarter or clemency (Harvard Prof Urges Liberals to Treat Evangelical Christians Like Nazis); 2) The Israeli Press reports that the U.S. is planning to take a tougher line against Israel;3) Following Josh McDowell’s study revealing epidemic use of pornography in the church, it has been discovered that America’s top secret National Security Agency (NSA) is facing epidemic use of child pornography by employees using NSA’s super-secret computers. NSA does not want to discuss the matter. Clearly believers must take 1 Timothy 2:1-8 to heart and pray for our leaders! Thank you for praying!
